Natasha Masharova (b. 1984) is a Ukrainian-born visual artist, photographer, and documentary filmmaker based in Los Angeles. She co-founded and edited various art and culture media platforms, including looo.ch, Proza, and Sho, covering the post-Soviet region. She has also provided photography for numerous international outlets (Vice, TimeOut, Esquire, etc). In 2009, Natasha and her partner were subjected to violent persecution due to their media activism against censorship and in support of human rights, feminism, and LGBTQ+ rights in Ukraine. This forced them to flee their home and seek political refuge in the U.S. In her documentary work, Natasha focuses on the ethnographic exploration of underrepresented communities and phenomena, breaking down cultural barriers and encouraging empathy and understanding. Natasha's photography is a unique visual tribute to the industrial landscape, shaped by her upbringing on the outskirts of Post-Soviet Kyiv, Ukraine, where she developed an eye for finding beauty in rugged, dilapidated surroundings. Masharova's works have been screened, exhibited, and collected in the U.S., Europe, and Asia.
